How to Submit Items for the Hadashot

As a member of CBS, you can submit an article, photograph, announcement or ad for publication in our print newsletter, Hadashot.
News-worthy items that appear in Hadashot are also posted on this website.

To submit an item for consideration, please follow these procedures:

Articles

1. All articles are due by the 10th of the month prior to publication, and should be submitted to . E-mail is the preferred method of submission.
2. Articles should be submitted in plain text format, or as a Microsoft Word document.
3. All articles must be spell-checked and proof read. If there are others who must approve content of your article, please get that feedback and make any necessary changes before submitting the article by the 10th of the month prior to publication. Only FINAL versions of articles will be accepted.
4. The editor and Hadashot proofreaders reserve the right to edit articles for clarity and length.

Photographs

1. Photographs may be submitted to accompany an article, or, if you have several images of a CBS event that you’d like to submit for consideration for the monthly photo spread, these can be submitted as well.
2. Digital images are preferred. The following image formats are accepted: .jpg, .gif, .tif, .wmf, .bmp. Tiff (.tif) files are preferred as these files are uncompressed and will reproduce the best in print.
3. All submitted photos should be at least 300 ppi. Line drawings or other non-photograph image files should be submitted at least 180 ppi. As a rule, any image file with a file size of less than 200 kb will likely be too low-resolution to reproduce in the print Hadashot.
4. As the Hadashot is printed in black & white, black & white or grayscale images are preferred. If you’re not sure how to convert a file to black & white or grayscale, the Hadashot designer can do this for you.
5. All images submitted should be color corrected and cropped appropriately.
6. If a digital file is not available, a printed photograph may be submitted to the Hadashot folder in the CBS office no later than the 10th of the month prior to publication. Please include a note with the photograph indicating what article it should accompany and any cropping instructions
7. If an image is out of focus, it will print out of focus. Don’t submit it, please find another image.
8. Photographs sent to accompany an article will be included if space permits. The editor reserves the right to crop images or resize them.
   

Announcements/Ads

1. You may submit designed announcements or ads for publication. Announcements for CBS sponsored events will be published at no charge. If you are interested in advertising a business or service in the Hadashot, please contact Hadashot@bshalom.org for ad rates.
2. The following announcement/ad sizes are accepted: Quarter page (3.625” wide x 4.875” high), Half page (7.5” wide x 4.875” high OR 3.625” wide by 10” high), Full page (7.5” wide by 10” high). All ads should be created at 300 ppi. Lower resolution ads will not reproduce well, and may be rejected.
3. Designed announcements or ads can be submitted in the following file formats: Adobe Illustrator (.eps, .ai), Adobe Photoshop (.psd), Adobe InDesign (.indd), Adobe Acrobat (.pdf), Microsoft Word (.doc) or Corel WordPerfect (.wpd).
4. If submitting a .pdf file, please also send the original file used to create the PDF.
5. E-mail is the preferred submission format. Please send all files and any applicable instructions to hadashot@bshalom.org. All files over 10 MB must be submitted on CD. Please leave the CD in the Hadashot folder in the CBS office by the 10th of the month prior to publication.
6. If a digital file is not available, a printed announcement or ad may be submitted to the Hadashot folder in the CBS office no later than the 10th of the month prior to publication. Please include a note with the printout indicating any cropping instructions
7. All announcements/ads must be spell checked and proof read. If there are others who must approve content of your announcement/ad, please get that feedback and make any necessary changes before submitting your file by the 10th of the month prior to publication. Only FINAL versions of announcements/ads will be accepted.
8. The editor and Hadashot proofreaders reserve the right to edit announcements for clarity and design.
9. The Hadashot designer can help you design an ad for publication, and can be contacted at sblint@comcast.net. Design fees may apply.
