The Jewish World of Alexander Hamilton

The Jewish World of Alexander Hamilton

This event already happened:
Sunday, July 24, 2022
3:00PM - 4:30PM

Join us as Professor Andrew Porwancher debunks a string of myths about this founder’s origins to arrive at a startling conclusion: Hamilton was, in all likelihood, born and raised Jewish. While he did not identify as a Jew in his American adulthood, Hamilton emerged as an important advocate for Jewry in the United States. The story of Hamilton and the Jewish people gives us fresh insight into a young republic torn between New World promises and Old World prejudices.

Andrew Porwancher is the Wick Cary Professor of Constitutional Studies at the University of Oklahoma. His book, The Jewish World of Alexander Hamilton, was published by Princeton University Press and won the Journal of the American Revolution Book-of-the-Year Award. He has held fellowships at Harvard, Princeton, and Oxford, and holds a PhD from Cambridge. His first book, The Devil Himself, was adapted for the stage in Ireland.
