Your child is an individual and has his/her own learning style and needs. The B’nai Shalom Religious School provides children with a variety of meaningful formal and informal Jewish learning experiences. These experiences empower each child to develop a special relationship with Judaism through knowledge of Jewish text, Hebrew, history and culture. Our small class size allows the teachers and clergy to truly know all of the students, as well as their unique talents and needs. We commit to helping your child find their own unique Jewish voice.

Principal Objectives

We have designed our curriculum to develop the following skills. Our students will:

  • Understand and take pride in the culture, history and traditions of the Jewish people.
  • Participate with confidence in daily, Shabbat, and holiday services, possessing sufficient knowledge of siddur Hebrew for the prayers to be meaningful.
  • Put our Jewish ethical principles into practice in the context of family, congregation, and community, including acts of Tikkun Olam (making the world a better place to live).
  • Develop a thoughtful relationship and personal connection with the State of Israel, its people and land.
  • Develop a sense of school community and friendship.
  • HAVE FUN!!!

Hebrew, Prayer and Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Our students receive individual attention to ensure that they go beyond just memorizing prayers. Beginning in Kindergarten, our students are introduced to the Aleph Bet.  Each year we continue to build upon their skills working towards high levels of language proficiency and appreciation. We teach vocabulary, meaning, and history behind each prayer text.  As a school, students participate in our weekly Ruach Minyan, familiarizing them with tefillah (prayer) and how to participate as a community.  Students also participate in our Class Service program which allows them to become comfortable with leading the community.  By Bar or Bat Mitzvah age, students can lead a service from the siddur (prayer book) with pride and confidence. They appreciate the spiritual nature of Torah and Tefillah (prayer), adding to the Bar/Bat Mitzvah experience.
