Who would believe that the thin-papered, self-mailing aerogram would be able to sustain a love story over so many years? From 1970 to 1972, the young kibbutznik Rachel Korati and the young UC Berkeley graduate student David Biale corresponded, beginning an intense dialogue about Israel, culture, Judaism and literature. Married now for several decades, their recently published book, Aerograms Across the Ocean, chronicles their romance that emerged through the 258 letters that they exchanged in the years after the 1967 Six-Day War and during the war in Vietnam.

Rachel Biale has worked as a therapist, a cultural programmer and community organizer. David Biale was the Emanuel Ringelblum Distinguished Professor of History at UC Davis. Three of his books won the National Jewish Book Award.

Admission is free.  A donation of $5.00 is suggested. Upon registration, you will first receive a confirmation email. An hour before the program begins, we will email the Zoom link you need to join the event. If you don’t see these emails, please check your spam/junk folder to retrieve them.
