Facilitated by Riva Gambert

2:00PM - 3:00PM
There was a time in Hollywood when some furnishings simply vanished, including double beds and toilets. According to the Hays Code, the studios had to protect the public, especially America’s youth, from the dangers of immorality. This course will trace the early calls for film censorship in the 1890’s to the 1934 code that changed Hollywood for decades. We’ll conclude with an examination of pre-WWII films that refrained from capturing what was occurring in Hitler’s Germany.
