Prepare for the High Holidays with an Afternoon of Meditation and Spiritual Practice

Elul, the Hebrew month before the High Holidays, is traditionally a period of self-reflection that reaches a highpoint on Yom Kippur.  In this time of pandemic, social disruption, and sheltering in place, we will come together in community to experience the wisdom of the Jewish tradition and access our inner knowing. Rabbi Dorothy Richman will facilitate an afternoon of virtual, engaged spiritual practice including mindfulness meditation, text study, writing exercises, and singing.  We will learn how to apply ancient Jewish wisdom to our lives in this moment and to prepare ourselves for the coming New Year and all it may hold.

In our three hours together, we will spend the first hour immersing in song and silence. We will then engage deeply in text study and discussion. Finally, we will turn our attention to the spiritual practices specific to Elul and consider which practices might support our own reflection and transformation.

Rabbi Dorothy Richman serves as the rabbi of Makor Or: Jewish Meditation Center and is a founding faculty member of the Romemu Yeshiva in New York City.  Her teaching integrates Jewish text, practice, ritual and music to help students connect to themselves, to each other, to the Divine, and to their communities.

This program is jointly sponsored by Congregation B’nai Shalom and B’nai Tikvah and is open to members and friends.
