Israeli Philharmonic Concert
Sunday, November 6, 2022
7:30PM - 10:00PM
Location: Davies Symphony Hall
Israel Philharmonic Orchestra returns to San Francisco!
The Israel Philharmonic will perform a guaranteed crowd-pleaser, Gustav Mahler’s klezmer-tinged Symphony No. 1, known as the “Titan,” replete with pastoral scenes and nods toward the composer’s Jewish roots.
The orchestra will also premiere a distinctly Jewish work unfamiliar to many classical music fans, Symphony No. 1 by the late Paul Ben-Haim, a piece that holds a special place in Israeli classical music history. A favorite of conductor Lahav Shani, it was written during the first years of World War II. Paul Ben-Haim’s fiercely dramatic First Symphony intermingles the anguish of the composer’s world with the joy and beauty of his hopes for peace.
