CONGREGATION EMANU-EL SAN FRANCISCO PRESENTS EIGHT VOICE COLLABORATIVE KOLEINU
HOME: SONGS OF LONGING AND BELONGING
Congregation Emanu-El announces the long-awaited return of Koleinu, a musical concert featuring eight cantorial voices joining together to address an important social justice theme.  This new collaboration is dedicated to the concept of HOME: Longing and Belonging. In addition to Emanu-El’s Cantor Marsha Attie, Cantor Arik Luck, and Cantor Emerita Roz Barak, Koleinu will feature Ḥazzan Sandy Bernstein, Congregation B’nai Shalom, Walnut Creek, Cantor Yonah Kliger, Congregation Peninsula Temple Sholom, Burlingame as well as returning favorites Cantor Joshua Breitzer, Congregation Beth Elohim, Brooklyn, Cantor Galit Dadoun-Cohen, Temple B’nai Or, Morristown, N.J., and Cantorial Soloist Jason McKinney, Temple Emanuel Winston Salem, NC. Musical Direction is by Cantor Jonathan Comisar, Hebrew Union College, NY.
HOME is a word charged with multiple meanings and inferences. It means different things to different people. It can be an edifice, a homeland, an ancestral heritage, a place of security, a place to rest, a welcoming center for family, a sense of peace and spirituality, as well as, for those who don’t have it and those who advocate for it, a human right. For many, our opinions have evolved over the past three years as we have been faced with staying home, of necessity to our health, well-being, and that of our communities. We’ll explore all this in a vast array of musical styles from both Jewish and secular sources.
Tickets to Koleinu, February 7, 7:30pm in Martin Meyer Sanctuary, are available here.
